FAA third class
If you work in aviation, it is important to hold an FAA first- or third-class medical certificate. Without one of these, you are not authorised to fly an aircraft on your own. For an FAA first- or third-class medical certificate, you can come to Sky Medical Center.
What is the difference between FAA first and third class?
You apply for an FAA first- or third-class medical certificate (FAA Form 8500-8) entirely online. All information entered on this application form is visible to the Aeromedical Examiner, who reviews it before and during the examination. There are three classes of FAA medical certificate that you can obtain with us:
- FAA first class: for airline pilots and pilots whose employer requires this level of certification
- FAA second class: for pilots who fly for commercial purposes
- FAA third class: for student pilots, recreational pilots and private pilots who fly for pleasure or personal business
FAA first- and second-class medical certificates are valid for 12 months. An FAA third-class medical certificate is valid for 60 months for pilots under 40. From age 40, the FAA third-class certificate is valid for 24 months. Sky Medical Center can help you with both an initial medical examination and a renewal.
Medical examinations under the EASA medical requirements
The aeromedical examinations we offer are carried out in accordance with the medical requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency. They are therefore all performed by a certified Aeromedical Examiner, who uses these regulations to determine whether your health is compatible with flight safety.
